Thunderstorms, winds set to hit SA

There is some severe weather forecast for today, October 28, with predictions of damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall as a deep low pressure system travels over South Australia.

A thunderstorm warning has been given for Kangaroo Island, along with Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Flinders and parts of West Coast, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Mid North, Murraylands, Upper South East and North East Pastoral districts.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns of gusts of wind in excess of 90 km/h, along with heavy rain and hailstones which may cause flash flooding over the next few hours.

Locations which may be affected include Kingscote, Port Lincoln, Maitland, Murray Bridge, Meningie and Adelaide.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

  • Secure or put away loose items around your property.
  • Move cars under cover or away from trees.
  • Keep clear of fallen power lines.
  • Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
  • Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
  • Stay indoors, away from windows, while storms are nearby.
