Whyalla win inter-town clash

Whyalla had a convincing win against Port Augusta in the annual intertown Table tennis challenge recently held at the Seaview Christian College gym complex.

Whyalla 38 rubbers defeated Port Augusta 18 rubbers in a one-sided affair, and this ensures Whyalla retains the Challenge trophy after also winning last year at home.

In the top Division 1 the Whyalla team of Andrew Gray, Gary Copley and James Adir easily defeated the Port Augusta team of David Schooling, Wes Yates and Josh Scurrah 11 rubbers to 0, however several of the matches went to 5 sets and the Augusta team just couldn't finish it off. All Whyalla players had 3 singles wins.

In Division 2 the Whyalla team of Andrew Steny, Chris Palm and Steve Palm defeated the Port Augusta team of Otto Basson, Karl Chamberlain and Dr Kiru 9 rubbers to 2 rubbers in another convincing display. Andrew Steny and Chris Palm both had 3 wins and for Port Augusta Karl and Dr Kiru had 1 singles win.

In Division 3 the Whyalla team of Rebecca Walton, Umesh and Anthony Spillman defeated the Port Augusta team of Brodie Driscoll, Daniel Lutz and Shaurya Tiwari 9 rubbers to 2 rubbers.

Best player for Whyalla was Umesh with 3 singles win and Port Augusta had some glory with 2 -5 set games that they won, Brodie defeating Rebecca 11/6 in the 5th set and Daniel defeating Rebecca 11/4 in the 5th set.

Total scores for all divisions were Whyalla 38 rubbers 116 sets defeating Port Augusta 18 rubbers 78 rubbers.
