A new cancer support group have opened in Whyalla, providing support for women who share a cancer diagnosis in common.

The Wellness Sisters cancer support group held their official launch at a luncheon at the Foreshore Motor-Inn's Watersedge Restaurant on Friday, September 10.

The group regularly meet at Mint Cafe and provide a welcoming environment in which support is offered for those undergoing cancer treatment and those in the recovery phase post treatment.

While the group started as a breast cancer support group it is open to those with all types of cancer. The group promote health and wellbeing during and after treatment for cancer.

Making postitive and healthy lifestyle choices to improve cancer treatment, reducing long-term side effects of treatment and attempting to reduce cancer reoccurence are key goals of the Wellness Sisters.

The sisters also raise much needed funding for thoes financially impacted by a cancer diagnosis - all money raised by the group goes straight into the pockets of Whyalla locals and families dealing with this unexpected financial burden.

Foreshore Motor-Inn Manager Barbara Derham said it was great to host an event for a worthy cause.

"Sadly my mother passed away with cancer quite a few years ago, and I think this group here are very strong and they're here to help others who are dealing with this disatorous disease," she said.

In August the Wellness Sisters were recognised and registered as an Australian charitable organisation, and the group are delighted to announce they have been selected as the recipients of the Young Tradespeople and Professionals (YTAP) Charity Ball in October at the Westland Hotel.

The group encourage everyone to get their friends and family together and support the event and local charity by purchaing a ticket from the Westland Hotel.
