Bambridge blitzes the cup


Thursday, 8th July was the second round of the Bev Monaghan Memorial Trophy, an 18 hole Stableford Event, which was won by Helma Bambridge on 35 points and the recipient of a Top of the Town Lingerie voucher. Helma also had a chip in on the 18th hole. Runner up was Robyn Phillis who is playing very consistently of late on 33 points and very happy to receive a Car Bath voucher. Also on a countback on 33 points were Val Callaghan and Ilona Hansen. Ilona played very well on the 18th hole, being nearest the pin and also having a birdie. Val Callaghan was nearest the pin on the tricky 7th hole, avoiding the bunker and winning a McLeod's ball. The sweepstake award went to Diana Slater and the Encouragement award to Gelske Rogers.

Tuesday, 13th July was a 9 hole Par event. This was won by Ilona Hansen on +3, runner up was Gelske Rogers on +1, followed by Robyn Phillis, Dianne Thorpe and Glenda Davies, all on -1. Gelske was nearest the pin on the 7th, winning a McLeod's ball and Annette Cotter was happy to receive a ball in the sweepstake.

The Pat O'Brien Memorial Match Play final was also played on Tuesday between Helen McLean and Diana Slater. Both ladies played very consistently with similar handicaps, and had to play an extra hole after the 18, the winner being Helen on the 19th hole. Well done Helen!


Thursday 15th July was the 2nd round of the Peter Calliss Cup with a good field competing. Winner on the day was Ilona Hansen with 73 nett, and the recipient of the Exquisite Flowers voucher. Runner up on 74 nett was Maree Far, who is back playing consistent golf, and Maree received the Westland Car Bath voucher. Next was Marcia Smith, Val Callaghan and Beverley Shiell all on 76, Jean Brown on 77 and Helma Bambridge on 78 with Diana Slater missing out on a countback. Diana was NTP on the 7th and Dave Tilly, who was watching on,said it was very close to a hole-in-one, every golfers dream shot. NTP on 18th was Robyn Phillis. Sweepstake went to Wendy Beames and Pam Beinke received the Encouragement Award. Chip-ins were had by Wendy Beames and Pam Beinke, both on the 5th hole.

Tuesday was a 9 hole Stableford event with Gelske Rogers scoring 18 points along with Maree Farr on 18. Well done ladies. Glenda Davies had 15, Marge Nicholls and Robyn Phillis both on 14. NTP on the 7th was Glenda Davies, the sweepstake went to Anette Cotter and the Encouragement award went to Jean Brown. Due to the Covid lockdown there will be not competition golf until further notice.
