The Whyalla Golf Club ladies played the first round of the Grandmother's trophy last Thursday, which was won by Gelske Rogers on 73 nett.

She finished the 18-hole stroke event ahead of Beverley Shiell on 75, while the ball winners were Raelene Foubister on 77, Helma Bambridge with 79, Marge Nicholls on 80 and Val Callaghan's 83.

Rogers was happy to receive a Passion for Hair voucher, while Shiell won a Car Bath voucher.

Nicholls had a good day by scoring both the nearest the pin and a birdie on the seventh, while Marcia Smith had a chip-in on the 18th and Margaret Dunn won a sweepstake ball.

Abbey Pritchard was the monthly medal winner for April after good recent form.

Only a small number entered the nine-hole stableford on Tuesday, with several golfers away playing in Mildura, and two players completed their match play round.

Foubister was the two balls winner with 19 points, followed by Robyn Phillis on 16, Annette Cotter on 15, Nicholls on 14 and Michele Hart on 12 - all ladies receiving one ball each.

The sweepstake winner was Catherine Kwaw.

Heather Prosser was welcomed back to winter golf and it was not long before she found the middle of the fairway - on the 15th she hit a great long distance chip-in.
