COVID-19 has twice put a dent in the Whyalla Art Group's 2020 plans, but that will not stop the group's 'Unmasked' exhibition from taking place in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
The group usually hosts two exhibitions per year, but its planned March show had to be cancelled due to the COVID outbreak, while opening night for 'Unmasked' had been scheduled for last Friday.
Despite those setbacks, committee member Carolyn Larsen that would not stop the exhibition from going ahead, with COVID-19 precautions in place.
"COVID pulled the plug on our first exhibition, and the opening night had to be waived for 'Unmasked', but the exhibition is on the walls and it will hang for four weeks on our freshly painted walls," she said.
Included among more than 40 paintings on show are acrylics, oil paintings and water paintings.
Ms Larsen said the quality in this exhibition was something to behold.
"This would be one of the best exhibitions I have been involved with in my seven years on the committee," she said.
"It is a really good, vibrant and colourful exhibition, with an assorted mix of mediums."
The Darling Terrace gallery will be open on Tuesday and Friday from 11am to 3pm and on Saturday from 11am to 1pm until Friday, December 18.
Ms Larsen said all items in the exhibition were for sale, making for a great gift with Christmas around the corner.
"It would make an excellent gift for someone who you don't know what to get them," she said.
"It's an excellent gift idea as there is no ordering, postage and waiting. You can purchase or lay-by one of these great original paintings."
She said exhibition pieces covered three walls of the gallery, with the fourth including 'local scenes' of Whyalla that would also make for a great Christmas gift.
There is also a Christmas raffle, with tickets available for $1, with two prizes up for grabs.
