Lions overcame extraordinary circumstances to defeat Wanderers 3-1 and take out the seasons ending Bill Paterson Association Cup on Saturday at Swandel Park .
Both sides were near full strength as they lined up to the national anthem in windy conditions.
Both sides started well and had early half chances but it was Lions who took the lead as Dylan Kuchel's free kick found brother Jordy at the back post and he side footed his volley passed Rowlands in goal for a 1-0 lead .
The game was then turned on its head on the 30 min mark as Jordan Kuchel was sent off for a second bookable offence and Lions were down to 10 players .
Wanderers unsurprisingly started to get on top with the numerical advantage but were unable to pull a goal back and Lions went in with a slim half time lead .
The second half was only minutes old when Lions doubled their lead as quick feet by Gonzales saw him round his marker and score with a low shot from close range .
From the kick off Wanderers were awarded a penalty when Fellah was pulled down , Willmott crashed his spot kick off the post with possibly a touch from the keeper but soon after Fellah's turn and hit went in and Wanderers pulled one back .
5min later a shot from Arbon was handled by Lions Hazeal on the line and he was shown a straight Red card but Lions Keeper Martins Elemo pulled off an unbelievable save to keep his team in front and with 9 players pulled off the unthinkable.
With 20min to go Lions won a free kick 30 yards out and Kurt Kuchel produced a thunder bolt that flew into the top corner to give Lions a 3-1 lead .
The the remainder of the game Wanderers were camped in Lions half with numerous chances and a Dawson free kick off the crossbar but Lions were desperate in defence and held firm to win the Bill Paterson Association cup final in their 60th Anniversary year to end a great season for the club .
We had three winners of silverware this year with Westlands taking out the league cup , Lions the Association cup and Wanderers the league Championship.
