Are you keen to have a fun, healthy and sociable start to Australia Day this year?

Make sure you register for the Australia Day 5K Fun Run which is once again being put on by local volunteer organisation the Whyalla Harriers.

The run will be held on Sunday, January 26 starting at 8am in the Ada Ryan Gardens. If you're looking to get your ticket make sure you book online at https://australiadayfunrun.weebly.com/ before online registration closes at 9pm on Friday, January 24.

You can also register on the day - but make sure you get in early with registration available from 7am.

Harriers President Mike McCarron said in the past the fun run had always had great representation from sports teams and gym clubs around Whyalla.

"We encourage people to come out for fun and fitness as usual. It's also a social meeting for people, they get to get together before the school term starts," he said.

"We don't know what the weather is going to be like which is why we're starting early. We had over 400 participants last year and this year we're hoping to get even more.

"Some people like to use the run as a race whereas others like to walk in groups - we're really trying to appeal to a wide range of people."

Race day entry and race bib collection available at the Ada Ryan Gardens from 6.30am to 7.30am.

Grades include Open, Under 16, Under 13 and Masters (40 and over). Trophies will be presented for all grades as well as best sports team.

There will also be random prize draws of sport vouchers from InterSport.

Ticket prizes are Adults $10 (Additional $5 for race day entry), U16, U13 and Pensioners $5.
