GFG Alliance is informing the Whyalla and Iron Knob communities of a short trucking activity along the Iron Knob Road over the coming week.
The campaign will commence Friday, 29 November and is expected to last until Wednesday, 4 December 2019.
It will see quartz transported from GFG Alliance's Quartz Quarry - located about 18 kilometres from Iron Knob - to the Whyalla Steelworks for use as a flux in the Blast Furnace.
Up to six trucks will operate between 6.00am and 6.00pm, Saturday, 30 November - Wednesday, 4 December.
All road users are therefore asked to use extra caution and vigilance when travelling along the Iron Knob Road throughout this period.
GFG Alliance has consulted with the Iron Knob community and Whyalla Cycling Club to raise awareness and ensure minimum impact during the campaign.
Precautions and protocols are also in place to minimise any potential risk for other road users, including: - not operating when the Iron Knob school bus is on this stretch of road (7.30am - 9.00am & 3.00pm - 4.30pm).
Trucks numbered so they can be easily identified and reported by the public should they have any concerns - using dust suppression at the quarry; and covering trucks to minimise environmental impacts.
To ensure the safe, shared use of the Iron Knob Road, we encourage any other sporting or community groups who regularly utilise this road - or any areas nearby - to advise GFG Alliance's Community and Stakeholder Engagement Advisor, Denise Sharp, on 0447 039 358.
Denise can also be contacted by any residents with any queries or concerns regarding the campaign.
