The Whyalla Hockey Association will be able to upgrade and complete alterations required to its kitchen facilities through Round 5 of the Federal Government's Stronger Communities Program.
Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said he is very pleased the funding will enable the upgrade to proceed.
"The association has been successful in receiving $20,000 which will enable the association to upgrade the kitchen and purchase new benches, dishwasher, fridges, gas oven and fryers," he said.
"The Whyalla Hockey and Sporting Community Club is used by a number of community groups including the Whyalla Bird Society, the Filipino Cultural Association and family day care and Whyalla Homing Society.
"The facility is used extensively by the community and is the Whyalla Disaster Relief Centre.
"I am very pleased we have made these Federal Government funds available through the Stronger Communities Program to help regional communities and help this community facuility in Whyalla."
Chairperson of the Whyalla Hockey Association Tony Appleyard said he is delighted with the news the association has been successful.
"We do teas for junior and senior events and upgrading the kitchen will enable us to meet ever stricter standards for food preparation," he said.
"Having a state of the art kitchen will also enable us to prepare more varied dishes and cater to larger numbers.
"We are very grateful for this grant."
The Coalition Government's Stronger Communities Programme offers grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 for small capital projects.
