Busy year for photogroup

Whyalla Photography Group consists of about 35 members who are passionate about photography in many areas. Whether it be landscapes or birds, travel or macro, wildlife or portraits, someone has a favourite. As a lot of members are retired they are able to travel to pursue their interest.

It has been a busy year as people have travelled to Sri Lanka, Alaska, Japan, Iceland and Europe. Australia has not missed out with members travelling to all states, including Tasmania.

As a club, members have represented Whyalla at the recent National Photography Conference in Ballarat, and taken out a few awards in that exhibition as well.

It has been a busy year as people have travelled to Sri Lanka, Alaska, Japan, Iceland and Europe.

Eleven members spent a week in the Flinders Ranges at a Landscape Workshop in August. Some very early and very cold mornings were endured to get to the right spot at the right time for those amazing sunrise photos. Everyone learnt something from the workshop, in particular, that no matter how experienced you are, there is always a new technique or a different way of doing things.

Every month the club tries to have a practical night or excursion, and last Sunday we had an activity and lunch at the Whyalla Wetlands. Our focus is on fun, and sharing skills and ideas, and we would love to have some new younger members to share our passion.

Next year our group, in collaboration with Whyalla City Council, hopes to run a competition and exhibition for the youth of Whyalla. This will be run in tandem with the annual Eyre Peninsula Camera Clubs exhibition and will be a satellite event of the Unearth Festival. Our group will be engaging with schools to assist interested students with the process.

It is that time of the year again when our AGM and fees are due. This year it will be held at 7.30pm on October 30, at the Darling Terrace Art Gallery. All members are encouraged to attend with any new ideas for the club and to hear our plans going forward.

If you are thinking of joining the group it could be a good time to come and get more information. Otherwise you can contact our secretary at WhyallaPhotographyGroup@live.com
