The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) will be raising money to support those in Australia and overseas with community development and emergency relief this month, with the local appeal being spearheaded by a Family fair next weekend.
Local members of ADRA will be collecting funds door-to-door from 10am-6pm Monday to Saturday, carrying an ADRA bag and tin. Donations over $2 will be tax deductible.
ADRA Whyalla Coordinator Helen Hiscock said half of the money raised would stay in Australia while the other half would go to those in need overseas.
"The funding will go directly to supporting people, it's not evangelism, ADRA solely works in community development and emergency response," she said.
ADRA will be hosting a Family Fair at the Whyalla Adventist Church on 63 Hincks Avenue on Sunday, October 20 in support of the appeal.
Businesses are encouraged to register their interest in holding a stall on the day by calling Helen on 0429 700 279.
The fair will feature performances from the Whyalla Singers at 11:30am and the Ukulele Players at 12pm.
Vegetarian food will be on offer as will head and shoulder massages for $5. An auction will be held during the day, and a jumping castle and children's entertainment will ensure fun for the whole family.
Canine Behaviourist Judy Olsen will be available to teach you how to be safe with your dogs.
The Family Fair is part of Whyalla's Garage Sale Trail, which has seen hundreds of locals organise garage sales for Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20.
"Hopefully those on the trail will come and see us to try something tasty at the cafe and give to the ADRA appeal," Ms Hiscock said.
"The two events will go hand-in-hand."
