Road racing season has a windy end

In horrid windy conditions, the final point score cycling event was held on August 31 along the Stoney Point Road including a turnaround at the telecom tower.

Racing 60 kilometres in such weather had riders wondering 'what were we thinking' and grinning and bearing it.

Although rider numbers were lower than previous years it is hoped that more riders will venture out in 2020.

The combined points from previous time trial and criterium events were totalled with these road race points to find the club champion for each grade in 2019.

A Grade outright Club Champion Dylan Kaulins (Port Augusta) had a faultless season being committed and consistent.

Runner-up Tony Kingdon (Port Lincoln) was a regular strong force.

B Grade Club Champion Emma Mardon had a well-deserved win for her persistent effort. Runner-up was Adrian Wilson, the young one over 76 years.

C grade Club Champion Fritz Graeme Fargher, 'everyone's friend', he's not sure when he last won a trophy let alone the Club Champion.

Runner-up Will Symons is always happy to take home a medal.

Winners in U17, Cooper Jacobs, and U15, Jack Wisbey, are both strong riders for their age groups.

The wind up presentation was at the clubhouse shielded from the dreadful winds and treated to a scrumptious barbecue, salads and yummy desserts.

Keep a watch out for velodrome season starting October 18.

It's always a crowd pleaser.
