The ladies certainly were lucky with the weather for their 18-hole event on Thursday re the Whyalla Open. A and B Grade played stroke while C graders enjoyed a stableford event. Elysia Yap romped home to take the honours in A Grade while Jacqui Kerr kept her running streak in tact by winning B Grade and Helma Bambridge was too good in the C Grade division. Heather Prosser had a mixed day, having to add two strokes to her tally for hitting the wrong ball on the 12th and winning the raffle again.
A play off would have resulted had it not been for the misdemeanour, however, runner-up in C Grade was a creditable effort. Prosser has been renown for winning most raffles in which she enters so that luck certainly was no surprise. The trophies were again well chosen and the food supplied suited all tastes. It was an enjoyable day for all competitors from start to finish with compliments galore conveyed to all who gave of their time and energy to ensure just that. Well done all! Val Callaghan celebrated her birthday with 'cake' for golfers to enjoy.
Wednesday's senior golfers played their normal nine-hole stableford event in pleasant conditions. Charlie Agett again excelled to take the honours with 20 stableford points. His scores of late have been outstanding when one considers his 'low' handicap. Tony Norris, one of our past members, brought along son Constable Richard Norris to participate in the stableford. From news that I received, Richard can hit the ball a country mile. It was great that they were both welcomed on the day.
Most winter sports are now into the major competition rounds, however, our winter golf season continues with completion of women's competitions to be on October 15 (Tuesday) and the men's awards ceremony to be held on October 26 (Saturday). Summer golf will then commence.
