Sanjeev Gupta's GFG Alliance is yet again delivering benefits to the Whyalla community - this time through job opportunities and solar energy savings via its SIMEC Energy Australia (SEA) and ZEN Energy businesses - and is welcoming residents to learn more at this weekend's Whyalla Show.
With construction of the Cultana Solar Farm getting closer, SEA and the project's contract partner Shanghai Electric are now putting the call out to the community to source as many local workers and suppliers for the project as possible. There will be up to 350 positions on offer during construction and a further 10 ongoing jobs after the solar farm is complete and operational.
SEA CEO Marc Barrington has reaffirmed the company's commitment to a 'local first' approach in filling these positions, aiming to maximise the benefits for the local Whyalla community.
Roles include electricians, operators, logistics experts and general labour; while supply of machinery, transport, contract employees, storage and a host of other products and services are critical.
The broader community is also not missing out on the opportunities, with ZEN Energy recently launching exclusive discounts on home solar and battery storage for all Whyalla GFG employees, which is now open to all family and friends of GFG employees across the region.
As well as around 250 local GFG employees having already registered for the offer, ZEN Energy is keen to hear from all other GFG employees in the region - as well as their family and friends - to ensure the program delivers the largest possible benefits for the Whyalla community.
"The exclusive discounts include thousands of dollars' worth of savings on highquality solar energy and battery systems, including Tesla Powerwall," Mr Barrington said.
"ZEN is also approved by the SA Government to help customers access an additional subsidy of up to $6,000 for a home battery purchase through the SA Home Battery Scheme.
"These systems have the potential to cover off as much as 90 per cent of a home's energy needs, and deliver thousands of dollars of savings on residents' energy bills every year. With such large benefits on offer from solar and batteries, we're doing all we can to make it as accessible as possible for everyone in Whyalla and hope everyone can jump on the scheme."
To support these initiatives, SEA and ZEN Energy are inviting all GFG employees and Whyalla residents to visit them in the stadium at this year's Whyalla Show. They can learn about and register their interest for the various employment, supply and discount opportunities available, as well as finding out more about the Cultana Solar Farm project.
