Discombe treated to birthday spread

The Northern District Men's Veterans Competition was held at Tarcowie on Tuesday and was well-attended with only one male from our local club in attendance. From the attendee, the course was in magnificent condition and a hearty feast was enjoyed after completion of the game.

Wednesday's nine hole men's stableford competition was won by Danny Bastian who came in with a card of 17 points. Good for you, Danny!

The golf ladies were treated to a scrumptious luncheon after completion of play on Thursday to celebrate the 88th birthday of Audrey Discombe. All of Audrey's nine children along with family members, friends and golfing ladies enjoyed the spread and of course the bubbly.

Audrey is a long-time servant of the club in so many capacities who always carried out her duties to the hilt. Being a cheerful soul, we trust that her positive outlook on life will reap the reward of many future birthdays. We all thank the Discombe family for allowing us to share in the celebrations.

Several of our members have been slightly 'off' lately with Reggie Hocking heading the list. Red made an appearance at the club on Monday which is pleasing news. Richard Dunn also fronted up to play on Wednesday with the sight to one eye much improved from cataract surgery. Dave Kinslow is also back on track following surgery and performing like a champ!

Last but not least we send Peter Chapman 'Chappy' all the very best wishes re his impending operation. Let's hope for a positive result!

On Saturday, the nine-hole veterans stableford event was played in icy conditions with no respite from the penetrating freezing wind. The contestants were glad to be back in the warm club environment to hear the result when the game was completed.

The winner on the day was no other than Allan Slater with a score of 18 points on a countback from Danny Bastian.

There is a new bright spark out and about at our golf course now, being Dave Carpenter. From reports, he is a bundle of energy and improving several areas around our golf course with enthusiasm and a smile. Keep it up, Dave! Your efforts do not go unnoticed!

I heard that our president celebrated a milestone birthday on August 6. I'm sure he enjoyed the occasion even though one more number gets added to the total! Don't fret, Brian, it happens to us all.
