Melbourne drivers are expected to face a second day of city congestion with a flood-damaged road due to remain closed.
Authorities have confirmed that a section of Victoria Street will be cut off on Friday, more than 24 hours after a burst main left parts of the road covered in waist-deep water.
Emergency workers stemmed the flow of water with sandbags and the road was reopened in one direction.
But "extensive damage" has forced eastbound lanes to remain closed overnight and into the morning peak on Friday, VicRoads said in a statement.
Drivers have been urged to avoid the area.
Engineers are monitoring conditions and making changes to signals in real time to minimise delays.
The flooding meant some nearby properties were without water supply for hours.
