WANDERERS VS STEEL UNITED
Alan Walker League Cup final
3pm Saturday, Jenkins Park
Wanderers will meet Steel United in this season's Alan Walker League Cup final on Saturday at Jenkins Park as both teams vie for the first silverware of the year.
It's been 15 years since Wanderers last won an A Grade trophy and strangely enough that was also the league cup with Captain Ratzlaf, Dawson and Rowlands the only survivors from that team in this current squad.
Wanderers have been impressive so far winning all their games and remain the only undefeated side so far but know that will mean very little if they don't lift the cup this weekend.
It will have been 20 days between the blues last match and the final which isn't ideal preparation going into such a big game but confidence is high and coach Paterson has been reiterating the importance of training over this period.
Jake Shannon missed the last encounter with Croatia due to injury but looks set to return which would give Wanderers a full squad to choose from for the first time this season.
Possible squad-: Marinkovic, Shannon, B. Robinson, Arbon, Heron, D. Robinson, Mikic, Ratzlaf (c), Joslyn, Papoulis, Faulds, Fellah, Tullet, Dawson, Brown .
Steel United go into the final in good form on the back of two consecutive victories, playing free flowing football putting defences under real pressure.
The only defeat they've suffered so far was that of Wanderers 3-1 but the score line didn't reflect how close the game really was and Coach Finnigan will be hoping for a reversal in fortune here.
Steel have shown over the years that there always up for a final and have a remarkable record have reached at least one cup final every year since 2014 and are the current Bill Paterson Association Cup holders.
Possible squad-: Kilpatrick, A.Fay, Corney, Paterson, Michaelides, Green, Ledington (c), K. Fay, Boyland, Wade, King, Bambridge, Jackson, Todd, Woodall.
It looks like it's going to be a beautiful day Saturday with the sun shining so let's support local soccer and get down to what shall be a cracking final.
Westland and Wanderers set to battle in reserve cup final
In the reserve League Cup final Westland United will face Wanderers in what should be a superb match up.
Westlands won the only encounter so far between these two teams in the first round 3-2 at Swandel Park with the Red Devils going through the rounds undefeated in the process.
They have a good mixture of youth and experience in there squad and are scoring goals for fun.
Since that early defeat Wanderers have swept all beside them to meet Westland in the final and have also got a great mix of players young and old.
With Wanderers having their first team in the final the club has to juggle two squads which could advantage the Red Devils here.
Should be a close game with plenty of goals so get down early as kickoff with being at 12.30pm in case of extra time.
