WOMEN'S SUMMER GOLF: Winners Thelma Murray, Maree Farr, Gelske Rogers and Johanna Gogan.

Our senior men's nine-hole stableford competition was cancelled on Saturday due to the excessive heat policy. Wednesday's glorious weather attracted a good field of competitors, however, with Rob Burt taking the honours on 18 stableford points from Bob Clayton on 17 points.

The 'big day' finally arrived for Richard Dunn to have surgery on his heart in Adelaide. Not a long wait really; only six months. It seems shameful, really. Just the problem of living in the country. All the members of the club wish Richard a speedy recovery for he is without a doubt a very respected golfer and community man.

We members of a x-lotto syndicate with Margaret Herbert as CEO received a very pleasant surprise recently when Marg dropped in with a dividend. Everyone appreciates your dedication, Marg, and we all say a very big thank you.

Well, my re-replacement knee surgery went as predicted and Marge Nicholls' replacement was a success story, so it won't be long now and we'll be 'striking' golf balls once again (can't wait).

Reg Hocking continues to have a yarn on hand weekly for our nine-hole seniors with the last all about 'Donald Trump' at the pearly gates. It was a real beauty, Reg!

Jenny Pollock and Murray Peters have now returned to their homes. As the old saying goes 'there is no place like home', as I am sure the above-mentioned would wholeheartedly agree. Good wishes to you both from all golf club members.

The winter golf season commences this week and with the 'hot' weather tapering off all is set for a successful 'season proper'. Sponsors have again come to the party to provide much-valued donations of vouchers and trophies. We sincerely appreciate the support of Whyalla business-houses and trust our members will support them in every way possible.

A 'crew' of Whyalla golfers have travelled to the Victor Harbor district to participate in a variety of events at golf courses around that area. A good time should be had by all!

'Glamour boy' Colin Rodda celebrated his 90th birthday recently with family and friends. Col maintains a good quality lifestyle to this day and is very much 'family proud'. Many will remember his football playing days for North Whyalla where his dedication to the club earnt him life membership. He now participates in nine-hole golf competitions at the Whyalla club and is indeed a very popular guy. Many happy returns, Colin, from all of us!

Saturday's nine-hold stableford event was won by Ian Roberts who played well to record 19 points with Danny Bastian hot on his heels on 18 points. Well played, fellas!
