The Whyalla Bowling Club has completed the first of the three club championships with the final of the fours being played last week.
The contest was a very tight game throughout, and it came down to the last end with scores level at 11 all. In a tight last end the four of Denis Stephenson (lead), Gary Williams (second), Bruce Isaacson (third) and Bob Damon (skip) were able to score two shots to win the end and become Club Champions.
Runners up were the four of Bill Hunt (lead), Wayne McAllen (second), Bill Geihlich (third) and Graham Pycroft (skip).
Bill Hunt, a vision impaired bowler again played consistent lead bowls, and his very close toucher on the last end looked like giving his team the final, but good close bowls and a slight movement of the jack saw Bob Damon’s team win the end and the final.
The Championship Pairs will begin on Sunday, February 10, and the Championship Singles on Sunday, February 17.
The Monday Night Social Bowls competition will begin for the second eight week competition on Monday, February 4.
This competition is open to anyone who would like to come and try the game of bowls, in a very social and relaxed atmosphere.
The night includes two games of bowls, nibbles and the usual quiz.
As always the Whyalla Bowling Club provides its facilities for social functions, catered or self catered, be it a birthday engagement or wedding, and Friday night counter teas (with free game of bowls) continue.
