ALDI Australia have confirmed that their planned supermarket in Whyalla would create 15-20 new full-time and part-time jobs in the steel city.
A spokesperson for the supermarket chain said ALDI were ‘eager to bring our unique shopping experience to local residents in Whyalla’.
ALDI has lodged a development application for the new store with the Whyalla City Council. They plan to build the supermarket behind the government offices situated on the corner of Nicolson Avenue and Ekblom Street.
“When establishing a new store, ALDI considers the long-term potential of the area and population numbers,” said the ALDI Australia spokesperson.
“We work closely with local planning bodies such as councils, other businesses and community groups to ensure we positively impact the local area
“As we’re still in the early stages of planning for the new store, we are yet to confirm the construction timeline. We will continue to update the community as our plans progress.
“Once open, the store will be supported by a team of 15-20 full and part time employees.”
ALDI’s application for the shop/supermarket has gone to Category 2 notification whereby adjacent land owners/occupiers are notified and given an opportunity to make representation.
This notification period expires on January 10, 2019.
