Roopena tackles South

Roopena 53 def South Whyalla 50

Saturday's match between Centrals and Norths was abandoned due to weather.

Roopena tackled South on Sunday at Schulz Reserve with the wonderful summer weather preventing the turf pitch availability.

South won the toss and elected to bat, but perhaps this decision was unwise.

Fresh off the plane before being chauffered to the ground in a show of commitment that has seen Roopena skyrocket to equal top of the table, new import Van Eekeren produced a spell of bowling perhaps not witnessed in Australian cricket before.

Van Eekeren claimed his first eight wickets without conceding a solitary run, before a misfield off his own bowling cost him his chance at the ultimate glory.

At one stage South were eight for three and fans at the ground were on their phones searching for the record books.

In a mini show of defiance Harley 'The Wall' Hill having opened the batting put up some mini resistance in an otherwise forgettable day for the South batsman.

Hill finished 24 not out having carried his bat in a meagre total of 50.

Roopena’s charges took little time in chasing the total.

With seemingly the only risk being the weather Lynch 24* and the ever reliable veteran Nielsen 16* blasted their way to the total with little to know fuss finishing 1 for 53. Roopena have a lot to look forward to going into the Christmas break having done some serious recruiting in the off season and strong rumours of former combined opening batsman Shane Dunbar making a return after Christmas to strengthen an already powerful batting line up.

“Roopena have a lot to look forward to going into the Christmas break having done some serious recruiting in the off season ...”

South can use the break to re-group and see if they can record their first victory of the season.
