Wanderers Soccer and Social Club held its 60th anniversary celebrations over the October long weekend.
Opening in 1958, the Whyalla Shipyards boom saw Wanderers build a soccer club full of migrant workers from the United Kingdom including Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
The club prided itself on its family environment, something it has continued to encompass to the present day.
Celebrations of the anniversary were held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with a family fun day to wrap up the weekend of festivities.
Saturday night saw Wanderers bedazzled like never before, for the weekend ‘Gala’ event.
A red carpet welcomed guests, before local photographer Rebecca Scharber snapped their picture.
The guests were then treated to a three course meal, catered by David from Exclusive Bridal Hire and Gifts.
Speeches were held over the evening by Club President Shannon Nielsen, former player Adrian Hart, Club Secretary John Hunt and local MP Eddie Hughes.
David Ratzlaf and Joseph Colbert were also awarded coveted life memberships on the night.
Guests travelled from around the state and country to reminisce about the early days and see how the club has grown in 60 years.
The weekend was made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of club members throughout the year.
Wanderers would like to thank all who supported them in fundraising for the event.
