Continuing Whyalla’s heightened public exposure this year, the steel city will feature on the National Geographic Channel.

Presenter Tyson Mayr and crew of five were in Whyalla to film for a National Geographic Channel program to be called Only in Oz which will focus on telling uniquely Australian stories.

Mr Mayr and the crew not only did a dive with the cuttlefish at Stony Point, they also filmed at the Point Lowly Lighthouse, Hummock Hill and around the city.

One of the crew members said the team was rapt to come to Whyalla.

“We were so excited about coming to Whyalla to film the cuttlefish aggregation,” they said.

“We had a professional drone operator for each of the locations too.

“Whyalla is such a unique place.”

The production is now in the editing stage in preparation for an upcoming season of Only in Oz. It is expected to air in mid-2019 on the internationally-recognised environmental television channel.

Mr Mayr made a name for himself as The Naked Traveller after his 28-country adventure where he travelled through six different continents on a budget of less than $10,000.

He is a model, has starred on I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! and has a big social media following.
