Magpies win tight contest in upset

North Whyalla have proven to be West Whyalla’s “kryptonite” this season once again, defeating the Dragons by five points in a round 12 thriller.

The 6.5 (41) to 5.6 (36) win puts the Magpies at two wins and a draw over West this season. J. Trezise, T. Brown and W. Dare were best for North while I. Mills, A. Smith, S. Winders were best for West.

North ended the Dragons’ two-year undefeated streak in Round 2 with a six-point win. This was followed by a draw between the two sides in round 7.

In other results South Whyalla returned to the winners’ list with a much-needed 68-point win over Roopena on the back of a five-goal performance by N. Van Eekeren.

Weeroona Bay continued their good form by accounting for Central Whyalla by 17 points 9.9 (63) to 6.10 (46).
