Saltbush Orienteers take on Port Lincoln

Twelve members of Saltbush Orienteers from Whyalla competed in the yearly inter-club competition with Lincoln Orienteers on Sunday, July 1, at Louth Bay, 22km north of Port Lincoln.

The map that participants used encompassed the small township, coastal terrain with beach, vegetated sand dunes and low but rocky shoreline, and an extensive golf course interspersed with complex vegetation.

In cool but sunny weather the Saltbush ‘C’ team comprising three members – Tonia Munday, Sequoia Munday and Rebecca Laurie, ran a 2 km distance course and were fastest and gained the C grade prize, the quartz trophy.

Of all the competitors in the C courses Tonia Munday ran an equal fastest individual time of 20 minutes 02 seconds.

Also, Darren Bergmann of the Saltbush club ran the fastest individual time of the B courses in a time of 30 minutes 40 seconds.

The other courses in approximately 4 km and 3 km distances respectively with A and B teams were won by Lincoln teams and Lincoln gained the overall club trophy.

The full results are on the Saltbush Orienteers website at: and the Lincoln Orienteers website.
