Whyalla’s new On The Run will be bringing Subway, C Coffee and general goods to the steel city.
The facility will be an OTR BP service station with regular pumps and car parking. Excavation work is currently being undertaken at the site on the corner of Playford Avenue and Elliot Street to install fuel tanks.
OTR have been given 12 months to complete work on the facility, and have been provided with an extension for the upgrade and branding of its McCritchie service station.
The $3 million development, which was announced in September 2017, could bring around as many as 30 long-term jobs into Whyalla and help re-invigorate the Playford Avenue precinct.
Speaking to the Whyalla News last year, OTR Business Development Manager Philip Moir said 50 jobs would be created during the construction of the new development.
“As with all regional developments, we will call on a host of local trades to help construct the store,” he said.
Last year Council CEO Chris Cowley said the new business sent a clear message to the business community that there is a level of confidence in the economy of Whyalla.
“It will create opportunities for parts of the community struggling to find employment,” he said.
