Field day for the Indians | WHYALLA SOFTBALL/BASEBALL

Sunday’s games started with the Juniors’ Indians vs Road Runners.

Both teams fielding full sides saw Indians in for a bat first. Alyssa Tremble had a cracker hit to left field, Corey Ernesti to right field, and some walks saw them score seven across.

Road Runners’ JJ Scott had a lovely hit to right field but was unable to cross the plate with some nice fielding by Indians.

Roadies played catch in the third, scoring five across but with Indians having a good lead seen them take the win 12-5. 

The first softball game saw the Tigers vs Road Runners.

The game started with an error and a run scoring from Tanya Connor’s two-base hit to centre. 

Roadies’ Maggie Payne started with a nice hit to centre and Sarah Haake scoring from an error, but the ‘mum and daughter trio’ Sam, Aimee and Olivia Watson saw runs cross with hits to left and centre field. Tigers’ Jess Vines, Geraldine Reupana, Kath Wilson and Tanya Mcintosh all kept the outfield busy, while Jeanne Mcintosh did well at short stop.

The game was even until the last dig, where Tigers girls hit well bringing in seven runs and taking the win 12-5.

Second game saw the Indians vs Spears.

The game started with Indians in for a bat, scoring one across from the hit off Jankai Mathews. Spears’ Sharona Dodd, Kayla Lindsay and Tineale Colson brought in three runs. Indians Bec Andersson had a nice hit to left and saw Maddi Welgraven do a great slide home bringing in two runs.

The third dig kept scoreless for both teams. Going into the fourth, the Spears had a one-run lead, but the Indians had a great day in the field saw it kept to that.

Indians scored one to tie the game with Jeanette Gibbs home from Del Sullivan's sac fly to right field a great game by the two sides with some great fielding 4-4. 

The B Grade baseball saw Indians vs Roadies.

Indians were kept scoreless in the first. Roadies did well with the bat in the second scoring another three. Going into the third dig saw the game open up, with Roadies having a six-run lead and errors and wild throws along with some nice batting by Willy Gibbs and Janaki Mathews.

The Indians brought in six to tie the game, and Roadies needed the one to win. The Roadies were unable to score in their last dig thanks to nice base playing by Indians.

The score tied 7-7.

The A Grade saw them come together again with a much better start, both sides kept scoreless in the first, even with some nice hitting by Tyler Welgraven and Dale Kenyon. The Indians kept the Roadies scoreless for three digs. Roadies helped Indians with their score line with over throws, but were still kept scoreless.

Going into the top four, Indians had some changes with Del Sullivan in for Bec Andersson, Mick Gibbs in for Kyle Daniel Willy Gibbs on first with an error and home from another Del and Dale getting struck out, Amy on with an error but kept on second with Brandon striking out at home.

Roadies tried to play catch up, but with a few strike-outs, the Indians won 6-0.
