The ‘Be A Job Maker Program’ facilitated by the ‘New Venture Institute’ recently hosted their graduation ceremony at the old library at 3 Patterson Street.
The 6 week program is focused on helping participants to venture into the work force and overcome obstacles and challenges.
Amber Gentle, Samuel Joyce and Kayla Milovski from Plaza Youth Centre took part in the course and immediately started looking for or starting new employment.
The program presented the students with a number of useful skills to help lead them into a career and assist them with their day to day lives.
The workers of New Venture spent time to sit down with their participants individually to help them find a career that they will enjoy and enhance their unique lifestyles and strengths.
The skills that the students learned included such things as confidence, public speaking, ethical understanding and creative thinking.
This six week program consisted of 2 days of 6 hours a week; teaching the participants the importance of time management.
The program, although valued at over $1600, was free for the participants willing to devote their time to acquiring skills and pushing towards their new careers.
The graduating participants will now venture into their new future with a new, impressive addition to their Curriculum Vitae.
A total of 15 locals participated in the Be a Job Maker program.
