The Lachy Doley Group’s new album, Lovelight, is the fourth studio album for the in-demand keyboard player dubbed the Jimi Hendrix of the Hammond Organ, Lachy Doley.
Lachy Doley has been the player of choice, both on stage and in studio, for legends like Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Joe Bonamassa, Jimmy Barnes, Powderfinger and so many more.
As well as these guest player shows, The Lachy Doley Group have played over 200 shows and festivals around Australia and the world since their first release in 2011 including Queenscliff Music Festival, PEAK Perisher Festival, Culemborg Blues Fest in Holland, Memphis Blues Festival, Caloundra Music Fest and Woodford Folk Festival, Mitchell Creek Rock & Blues and were the stand out hit at the Gold Coast’s Blues On Broadbeach Festival for the last three years running.
Lovelight was recorded over two weeks at Freight Train Studios and once again puts the spotlight firmly on Doley’s keys as he pumps, pampers, and occasionally pounds, the most intense, ferocious, and often transcendent, sounds from his ’57 Hammond C3 and 70’s Whammy Clavinet.
It’s fast it’s slow, It’s loud, it’s soft, it’s soul, blues and rock all given the Lachy Doley treatment. Lovelight guests include Australian rock royalty, Jimmy Barnes, on the epic track, Who Was I Foolin’, as well as guitar virtuoso, Nathan Cavaleri.
Another album highlight, Only Cure for the Blues is the Blues, pays homage to many of the great blues artists and aims to shake the notion that all blues is depressing when in fact it’s quite the opposite.
“I listen to the blues to feel understood, inspired and to let the good times roll,” explains Doley.
“Blues music was born from the African American slaves singing as a group to relive the hell that they were living in. Blues was, and still is, a great escape.”
Lachy’s last album Conviction took him onto the world stage reaching #5 on the UK Blues Broadcasters Charts as well as #1 on the Australian iTunes Blues Charts and #1 on the Australian Blues & Roots Airplay Charts. Along with 2 Tours of Europe, the UK and USA, Doley has cemented himself as one of the world’s best.
The Lachy Doley Group is performing at Live at Lefties on Saturday, February 4.
