Whyalla Chamber of Commerce and Industry celebrated outstanding businesses and individuals in Whyalla at its 71st annual awards dinner on October 30.
The evening was attended by about 100 guests at the Westland Hotel Motel where awards were given in recognition of excellent services to the community during the past 12 months.
Retail Assistant of the Year was awarded to Telstra Store Whyalla staff member Candice Smith.
Trainee of the Year was awarded to Arrium OneSteel employee Tina Hackshaw.
Apprentice of the Year saw two individuals awarded with Onesteel as apprentice fitter, turner and machinist Nikita Taylor and Whyalla Hose and Fitting apprentice Matt King both taking home the title.
Whyalla Hose and Fittings continued its winning streak when it was also named the 2015 Employer of the Year.
New Business Venture of the Year was awarded to Glen Davidson Painting.
Whyalla Business Icon – Individual was awarded to business-minded community member Paul Johnson.
Des’s Cabs was recognised for its long-standing in the community being named Whyalla Business Icon - company.
The big award from the night though was presented to Masters in the Art of Hair with business owner Judith Schreiner collecting the award for Outstanding Business of the Year.
Masters in the Art of Hair was named outstanding business of the month for April for providing positive experiences which made customers want to come back.
The evening also paid tribute to chamber committee member Niven Boyd and his contributions to the chamber as well as the music industry in Whyalla.
Special guest speaker Anthony Kittel, chief executive officer and managing director of REDARC Electronics, was a highlight of the evening for many guests as he discussed the key to his success.
