Last week both the Labor and Liberal parties announced they would provide increased funding for the Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS), a program that provides assistance to people living in regional areas who need medical treatment.
While it is hard to ignore the timeliness of these announcements, this is a win for regional communities.
With the state election edging closer, we need to be keeping a strict eye on our state parties to ensure they aren’t having us on in their election promises.
Living in a regional area we know that we are often forgotten, and therefore it now is our time to bargain for more from our government and remind it that it is regional people who work in heavy industries and assist the government in gaining royalties from these companies.
We deserve as much support as anyone else in this state, and we need to push for this.
Let’s hope there are more positive announcements for us in the pipeline.
