The excitement is building for the GFG Alliance Whyalla Christmas Pageant with elves and elvettes busily working on their floats throughout the city.
One of the entries for the past five years, the Whyalla Terry White Chemmart team, is no exception with its busy little pharmaceutical pixies planning another big surprise this year.
The award-winner float makers have thrilled the kids and adults in the past four years with their innovative displays and big turnout of staff and family in costumes.
In 2013 it was an Elves theme, in 2014 they came third in the best float competition with their Trailer with Olaf (Frozen) before taking out first prize with the Enchanted Castle in 2015. Last year was nautical with their dressed-up boat in an Under the Sea theme.
With this year’s float theme still under wraps, the whole crew at the local chemist shop is looking forward to the unveiling on November 25.
“It’s going to be awesome,” one particular apothecary-type elf told us this week.
“It will be bright, colourful and the kids will love it.”
They also let it slip that they’ve been working for weeks over the weekends on the float. We’ve found out there’s been a lot of papier-mâché involved, a fair bit of wire, tons of glitter and a stack of flowers.
And we are also led to believe there was the need to make 30 costumes for all the float helpers who help spread the Christmas cheer.
“Each year we get donations of products for our generous suppliers to hand out to the adults in the crowd so they also feel a part of the Christmas spirit,” one elvette said.
The pageant entries are coming in thick and fast and there’s still time to enter before Friday’s deadline.
The GFG Alliance Whyalla Christmas Pageant starts an hour earlier this year, at 4pm, to allow time for the overflowing entertainment and activities on offer at the After Pageant Party in the Ada Ryan Gardens.
