Lions advance to semi final

Lions have advanced to the the semi final of the Bill Paterson Association Cup with an entertaining 6-3 victory over Wanderers at Jenkins Park on Sunday.

The win sets up a date with champions Croatia this Saturday for a chance to advance to the final.

In the reserves, Wanderers had a hard-fought 1-0 win over Lions to extend their season for another week and will also play Croatia in the semifinal.

This weekend’s games see Croatia tackle Lions at Croatia Park on Saturday with both teams looking to advance to the Bill Paterson Association Cup final.

Croatia have had a week’s rest and is freshened up for this match and have a full squad to choose from.

Sullivan, Dixon and the VerDoorn brothers will all put their hands up for selection giving coach Ferguson a good headache.

Lions have smashed in 12 goals in their last two games and are looking like the side that made the league cup final earlier this year.

Kinnear's inclusion has given them energy and Bonello is in fantastic form.

Lions will give it all but Croatia at home should prevail by a few.

In Sunday's game Steel United will host Westland United in the second semi final. The green machine will be hoping for a win to put them in a home cup final next week.

It will be 20 days since Steel played their last game which was a victory over Wanderers, lack of game time may see them a bit rusty or work in their favour and be champing at the bit to get on the park.

Anthony Malcolm may come into the side to add strength in midfield as coach Docherty should have most available for this one.

Westlands’ lack of numbers finally caught up with them against Lions in a 6-0 loss in their final league game of the season.

With an opportunity to make a cup final hopefully the players can band together for one last crack because when they are at full strength, they are a good side.

It should be a great game but with an opportunity to play in a home final and a possibility of having one last crack at Croatia should see Steel win.
