Over the past 10 years the committee has worked tirelessly to raise the profile of the Whyalla Kart Club and raise money to build up enough funds to allow a track resurface.
With the assistance of Karting Australia the dream of a new bitumen surface has been realized.
A total of $180,000 has been invested into the club facility which includes:
- New Bitumen
- CIK international kerbing and ripple strips
- Replacement of end of straight gravel traps
- New tyre barriers
- Underground Computer cabling
- Track in ground pick up magnets
Tonnes of dirt has been removed from the back straight and hair pin corner, this allows for a flat run off area into the new gravel trap.
The installation of alarm systems and surveillance equipment has also been completed earlier this year.
The club held the Whyalla City Council Kart Titles on the weekend of May 13 and 14, 2017 which was the first meeting after the resurface and all who attended say it is the best circuit they have been on anywhere for years.
All track records were broken by a long way, tyre wear was minimal, a fantastic result for all who raced at this event and will be great for all future events.
The committee and members have been extremely busy and now it’s time for all to have a break, have fun, enjoy the facility and go racing.
We would like to thank all our sponsors, volunteers and members for their time, effort and input, these guys/girls know who they are, again thank you very much.
The club would like to congratulate the Whyalla drivers who travelled and competed in the three round South Australian Clipsal 500 State Championships in Adelaide over the last few months.
End of series results:
- 5th- Cooper Jones- KA4 Light
- 13th- Cainton Stanley Grace- KA4 Light
- 6th- Scott Harper- Tag 125 Masters
- 5th- Luke Clee- Tag 125 Restricted Light
- 15th- Ky Hubner- Cadet 12
And a stellar effort to this young lad
- 3rd- Brayden Stewart- Cadet 12
There were some ups and downs for these guys throughout the series with some fantastic results thrown in.
These guys have certainly put Whyalla Karting on the South Australian map. Well done, guys!
