As unemployment continues to be a big issue in Whyalla and South Australia as a whole, The Department of Employment will be hosting an event with hopes to assist businesses to recruit job-ready individuals.
The department will be hosting a Business Breakfast Forum at the Westland Hotel Palms Function Centre on September 29.
Guest speakers include Steve Arndt from BHP Billiton Olympic Dam, and Brett Triffett from Oz Minerals.
Both speakers will give short presentations of their future plans for the region.
Employment Facilitator David Hayward said the event is shaping up nicely, with a total of 80 business and organisations nominating to be a part of the breakfast.
“The numbers are looking extremely good, nominations don’t close until next Monday so we’re expecting to get quite a few more,” he said.
“It’s very important that employers know about government programs which can assist them, so they need t take advantage of those programs and build their workforce capacity.”
Also presenting will be Ivan Neville from the Department of Employment who will provide a statistical analysis of the region including the future of work and the labour force requirements.
The Department will provide information on supports available for businesses to find and recruit individuals, accessing Government funding to support jobseekers with their training needs, and building workforce capability.
This event is supported by the Whyalla City Council, the Whyalla Chamber of Commerce and Regional Development Australia Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula Inc.
There will be opportunities for businesses to network with other employers and to share information about current workforce challenges and opportunities.
The Department of Employment will also be presenting to school students and job seekers later in the day.
Mr Hayward thanked all those supporting the event.
