Stuart Hockey Club were dominant in the A Grade Women’s Grand Final on the weekend, running out 3-0 victors over Hummock Hill Hockey Club.
Stuart grabbed the first goal of the game just before halftime through Olivia Watson-Dupille, and quickly increased their lead 10 minutes in the half after team captain Rebecca Crowhurst netted her first goal.
Sue Todd put the result beyond doubt with Stuart’s third goal of the game, securing the win and the premiership – Stuart’s first in several years.
Meanwhile the Men’s A Grade final, contested between the same two teams, was also won by Stuart who overcame Hummock Hill 3-2 in a tense and dramatic game.
Hummock dominated the opening moments and took a 1-0 lead after an interception lead to a goal through Shannon Pudney.
Stuart were able to equalise before halftime, with Whyalla News Medalist Matt Yendall finding the back of the net from the 25 metre mark.
Two short corners after halftime broke the game wide open for Stuart, with Shannon Clayton scoring after a save by Jacob Daumuller, and Matt Yendall increasing the lead with his second goal of the game.
However Hummock found their way back into the game after a short corner led to a goal from Chris Drew, but did not score on a short corner after the siren.
Stuart also won the Women’s B Grade Premiership.
