This weekend sees the resumption of the senior tennis competition after a three-week Christmas and New Year break.
Like 2009, senior matches are scheduled for Friday nights for the rest of January, rather than the normal Saturday afternoon.
Instead of waiting for the hot weather to force matches to be played at night, scheduling these night matches will allow people to plan their weekends and make their availability known to their respective captains ahead of time.
Night tennis also provides a great social atmosphere for spectators, along with the fierce rivalry between teams this year bodes well for these night matches to be great events.
The draw for Friday, January 15 sees Hopmans playing Newcombes, Stolles taking on Rosewalls and Courts against the might of Rafters.
With five teams having a realistic opportunity of playing finals this year and three teams battling for the last two positions, the second half of the season is sure to be hard fought.
For those competition players that wish to get in a little practice prior to the first week back, Thursday night practice will resume on January 14 about 5pm.
The first committee meeting is scheduled for January 14 from 7.30pm, with all members welcome to attend.
Looking ahead, the Whyalla Tennis Doubles Tournament is scheduled for February 27 and 28.
This event is open to all members of the community, with a small membership fee required for non members of any association.
Events will include opens and handicap events for men's, womens and mixed doubles, along with two categories for veterans, over 40 and over 60.
Entry forms will be available from mid January from the clubhouse, or by contacting Andrew Gray on 0402 452 862.
The Ocean Eyre Open Tournament was held in 2009 and will return again in 2011 bigger and better.
