Local tennis looks to cool Fridays

12 Apr, 2009 11:30 PM
With the completion of summer competitions the Whyalla Tennis Association is running a new Friday night social competition in the cooler months of the year.

So if you're thinking of coming out of retirement, wanting to stop the cobwebs in readiness for next year's summer seasons, looking for something social to do on a Friday night or just wanting to get into tennis, then this is your opportunity.

Friday night tennis will function similar to the already successful Wednesday night social competition, with players participating in teams of four and playing three doubles of 25 minutes each.

Each match played will be with a different member of your team making it a very social event.

Matches will be played in a fast tennis format whereby each point played will score a point toward the final result, much like table tennis or volleyball.

This style of competition caters for all standards, as the games can be as serious or as casual as the players wish.

Friday night tennis will be open to anyone that wishes to nominate a team/squad to an individual wanting to put their name down to be placed in a team.

Four players per team is the minimum required on game night, but a squad of members may be beneficial to ensure your team is represented each week.

Friday night tennis will not affect the Wednesday night competition.

The first Friday night season is scheduled to start on April 17 and running into June, with play starting at 6.30pm each night.

Team numbers are limited, and with a number of teams already nominated it will be first in first 'served'.

Team or individual nominations or expressions of interest can be made to Andrew Gray on 0402 452 862 or Di Rowe 0438 800 345.
