If Whyalla can attract a crowd, then it's got to be at a burnout competition.
Whyalla's first Smokefest pulled about 2000 people on Friday, which was one of the biggest crowds seen at the track.
Whyalla Steel City Drag Club president Pete Datson said it was a good night.
"It went great for our first time running a burnout comp," Datson said.
Competitors came from all around the State, but it was the Summer Nats burnout champions who everyone lined up to see.
Clint Ogolvie and multiple winner Garry Myers ripped up the track with an exhibition of thick white burnouts in their blown Torana and Mustang.
There were three brackets for four, six and eight cylinder cars in the competition.
Whyalla was lucky enough to take home the six cylinder bracket, with Whyalla's Scott Angle winning in his Commodore.
Whyalla's Olly Lazslo Molnar also did the city proud taking runner up in the four cylinder class with his Nissan Silvia.
Port Pirie's Leon Pasani won the V8 class in his XY Ford and the runner up was Adelaide For Cortina driver Daniel Lockyer.
Runner up in six cylinder was Port Augusta Commodore driver Jonathon Cox and winner of the four cylinder was Port Lincoln's Sonny Males in his RX7.
Datson said with the success of Smokefest they would look at holding it again at least once or twice a year.
Garry Myers and Clint Ogilvie displayed their cars the next day at the Port Augusta Motor Show with a number of the Whyalla and Port Augusta racers promoting Drag Racing in the local area.
A lucky Whyalla resident got to sit in Darren Morgan's Top Fuel rail that produces more than 8000 horse power just from start up.
