Two local boys faced each other off in the State juniors 8 ball singles on Saturday, October 31.
Dylan South and Bryce Ellis, both 11 years old, came first and second respectively at the Adelaide competition.
This was the biggest achievement for Ellis and South so far, boosting their confidence for bigger competitions.
Each played two round robins for the best out of three, but it came as a surprise when friends became rivals in the grand finals.
The unexpected face-off created nerves among the boys, but resulted in South defeating Ellis, 3-1.
In preparation for the event, the 8 ball champs travelled to Adelaide for practice.
Ellis also plays in the senior league every Thursday, with his winning rate at about 40 per cent.
Next on the cards for the junior pros is the Australian Championships in Hobart to represent South Australia in March next year.
Both boys said the sport was a great way to get experience from seniors and meet new friends.
Anyone keen to have a hit can try 8 ball at the Left Hand Club, which is run by Daryl Brandford.
Although the season is coming to an end, 8 ball begins again in January on Tuesday nights at 7.30pm.
A cost of $6 buys four games, a drink and a packet of chips.
