 Second spot up for grabs

Second spot up for grabs

01 Jul, 2009 11:30 PM
This Saturday the under 15 combined teams are off to Pedler Cup in Cowell.

We wish both teams all the best.

Players need to be in Cowell by 8.50am in time for the opening ceremony at 9am.

The teams will play five games then a final if successful.

Good luck also to the regional representatives that play in Adelaide on July 8 and 9.

Well the heat is going to be turned up in this week's matches in A Grade.

A GRADE

YCW (G) v Kiwi.

This game means second position to both teams if they win.

Kiwi believe they will make the grand final and I agree, but they have a lot of work to do in the next seven weeks as do the other A grade teams.

Consistency has been a killer for YC, but I think they may have turned a corner in that area.

I'm not convinced that Kelsey Jeansch is best in goal keeper as opposed to wing defence, although it seems to be working so far for YC.

There will be clashes all over the court - especially Tara Harris v Katie Rattley.

This game is going to be a lot closer than people may think.

I'm 50/50 about who is going to win mainly based on YC's efforts last week.

Warriors v True Blue.

Whoever wins this match will definitely be in the top four with a little breathing space.

Both teams lost last week, but I think the blues' loss was better if that makes sense.

Warriors may well be without Kate Nolan again this week.

Warriors' goalies must stand tall this week if they are going to win.

The blues are playing a more physical game than Warriors at present and this may come into the outcome this week.

This is not going to be an easy game for either team and I think it will go down right to the wire.

I'm leaning towards the blues, but only just.

A1 DIV 1

True Blue (B) v Warriors (B).

Warriors will give the blues a run for their money, but I think the blues experience will be the main difference. Warriors defensive line has been strong all season so the contest between Tegan Gollan and Kristen Blatchford will be one to watch.

Michaela Pancini has been one of the blues' most consistent players so Warriors will need to be mindful of Mick.

True Blue (W) v Kiwi (R).

This is a potential grand final preview between these two teams.

In theit last encounter Kiwi took the honours, but this time the blues are a different team.

The young kids have been doing a great job in amongst the senior players.

It will be interesting to see the experience of Kiwi and how they deal with the blues this time around.

Cassie Ward has an injury so she may be missing this week, which will make a difference in the Kiwi defence.

Kiwi will be anxious about this game because they need to win to get back their momentum.

Whoever does win will go into outright second position.

There will be so many variables that it's too hard to pick who is going to win.

Roopena v YCW (G).

YC will be feeling pretty good about last week's win and more than ready to take on Roopena.

Roopena will still be missing Kelly Paris again this week, which will leave them short in defence.

Roopena will probably struggle again this week.

YC with a full team needs to take advantage of this situation and win their third game.

If YC can start how they finished last week Roopena will be in trouble.

Warriors (G) v Kiwi (B).

Warriors have a mystery player who is a goalie so it will be great to see her play this week - Kiwi you may be in for a surprise.

Warriors' game last week was okay apart from the last quarter and against Kiwi they will need to play four good quarters.

Renee Humphries has been causing her opposition all sorts of problems consistently over the past four weeks. She is certainly in the running for a trophy at the end of the year if she can keep playing this well.

On ladder position Kiwi will go in as favourites.

Bye YCW (Y)

A1 DIV 2

YCW (Y) v Roopena.

This is a big game for YC because they need this win to stay in contact with the top four.

Roopena also need to win to cement their position in the top four.

I think this game is going to be very close.

Both sets of goalies are going to have to play big games if their teams are going to win.

Yvette Agars will be missing from YC, which is going to change their mid court structure along with Agars great voice on court.

Roos need to take advantage of this on Saturday.

Kiwi (B) v Warriors.

Kiwi has yet to win a game, but they have been keeping teams honest and making them play the game right out to the final whistle.

Warriors will win this game, but it's not going to be easy.

Kristy Mulconray has had a stellar season so far and she has been a leader on court for Warriors, which makes a big difference to this young team.

Kiwi (R) v YCW (G).

This game means a great deal too both teams as whoever wins will go to top position.

Kiwi is a little older than YC and that may have a bearing on this game.

YC's Daisy Keating has been great in defence and she will need to be on her game this week as well.

Jasana McNamara and Shona Whitaker have been key players for Kiwi and if they came play well YC might be in a little trouble.

Bye True Blue.

A1 RESERVE

Kiwi v True Blue (B).

Both teams are vying for second position so this will be a pressure game for both sides.

Kiwi is going to have to stop Kellie Bails and Tania Sweeney who have been the blues most consistent players in recent weeks.

Kiwi is really going to have to play well to beat the blues.

Roopena v True Blue (W).

With both teams having won win this should be a close game.

The blues have really improved this season and they are putting some good games together.

Roopena are in the same boat so this should be a nice friendly game.

Warriors v YCW.

YC have been getting close in games, but are having trouble finishing the game off.

Warriors are still cruising through the season without a lot of fuss.

YC will make them work hard, but I can't see them winning.

A2

True Blue v Warriors.

This game is going to test the blues, they are a talented team, but have yet to show their true potential which has been frustrating.

Warriors have only lost one game and I can't see the blues changing that situation.

Warriors learnt from their loss and I honestly don't expect them to lose again.

Kiwi (B) v Kiwi (R).

Sadly I think this will be a one sided affair with Kiwi winning.

the red team will work hard and make the black team earn their points.

Roopena v YCW.

This is a danger game for Roopena as YC drew with Kiwi black last week.

YC will need to keep playing hard if they are going to beat Roopena.

I think they can win, but consistency has been a problem for them.

Roopena will be hard to beat and they would not have been happy losing last week so they will be out to seek revenge.

U15

Kiwi (B) v Kiwi (R).

Kiwi red will try hard all game, but they just don't have the same fire power as their sister team.

True Blue (W) v Warriors.

The blues will be pretty happy with their efforts last week.

But they won't be able to get off to a slow start and expect to beat Warriors.

The blues will need to be close to Warriors at three quarter time if they are going to beat them.

YCW v Roopena.

After last week's win I think YC have become favourites to win the flag in this grade.

Roopena are going to have to play the game of their lives to beat YC.

YC will be feeling pretty great about their win and I'm sure their coaches will keep them focused on this game. Because if they don't Roopena could cause a huge upset.

Bye True Blue (B).

U13 DIV 2

Roopena v True Blue.

The last time these two teams met Roopena won by one goal in what was a very exciting game.

The blues had a big loss last week so it will be interesting to see if they can turn that game around.

Warriors v Kiwi.

Warriors better prepare for a long game especially if Kiwi reproduces last week's game.

Kiwi can have some very big wins yet they haven't been able to beat Roopena yet.

U11 DIV 1

Warriors v Kiwi.

Warriors are two points behind Kiwi so this should be a cracker game.

Kiwi had a close game last week and I expect the same this week.

Demi Dunn for Kiwi has been one of their best players and she has been able to really make a difference to Kiwi. Nellie Gowan does the same for Warriors.

True Blue v YCW (Y).

The blues remain undefeated and I don't think that is going to change this week.

However YC have been getting closer each time they play the blues.

The blues best not let their guard down or they may get a shock.

Bye YCW (G).

U11 DIV 2

Roopena v Kiwi (R).

Tricia Taylor is a gun little player for Kiwi who has really had an impact on her team this season.

Kiwi is only one game ahead of Roopena so this will be a close game.

Roopena's Abbey Goodwin has been their gun player in recent weeks.

Both teams are fairly even so anything could happen.

YCW v Kiwi (B).

Another close game is expected between these teams.

Kiwi has been improving over recent weeks so I'm expecting them to upset YC this week and get their first win.

True Blue (W) v True Blue (B).

Whites' biggest challenge is to beat their sister team and it isn't going to be easy.

The blues are yet to lose a game and this maybe the game where they come unstuck.

Emily Greener and Holly Stainer have been key players for all teams to worry about.

Abigail Cousins height is going to be an issue for the white team.

I think she's grown a foot since the last time I saw her.

I'm tipping white to win in an upset.

Bye Warriors.
