The final Whyalla Car club dirt circuit round is this Saturday and will again be spectacular racing under lights.
Considerable work has been carried out in the lead up, with improvements in many complex areas to ensure the safety of spectators and drivers.
Being a night meeting means the forecast heat will not deter drivers, making it more pleasant for families who appreciate evening temperatures.
Being the last meeting, many drivers are desperate to accumulate as many points as possible to improve their overall positions in what has been a hectic season.
Most race meetings this season have been in dry conditions that result in higher overall speeds and a high attrition rate due to overstressed mechanical components.
Overall consistency has lacked from a few of the more fancied drivers, so maybe this season will end with different names on the honours board.
The club committee are expecting a full program with numbers in all classes showing a great improvement of nominations and several more out of town drivers expected on the day.
Modifieds have 14 nominated drivers with at least four visitors from other clubs.
Chris and Geoff Pickert have completed vehicle repairs and should prove to be the ones to watch.
But James Priestley, Michael Ward, Allyssa Moore, Jeremy Walden and Ian Ellis can all benefit if the handicapper keeps up the immaculate places that has been a feature all season.
This will make the last few laps close and fast right up to the finish line.
Street Stocks had a great season and have provided some great spectacles since the first heat.
Barry Pickert is showing the style that has made him a crowd favourite in the Brock styled car, always guaranteed to be a front runner.
The much improved Justin Moore and Alby Kirkwood are two drivers who give 100 per cent from every start and are both favourites to cause an upset.
Billy Woolatt is another crowd favourite and despite the age of his car is capable of mixing it with the best and is never afraid to take every corner hard and often lifts a wheel with his determination.
Simon Moore seems to have put his mechanical failures behind him and will try his usual best.
Club President Bryan Brown will again take to the track and is capable of good track times on a good day.
Other drivers who can perform with suited track conditions are Simon Pooley, Matt Ashman, Paul Jacobs and Joe Demanuelle.
Open Wheelers are increasing in numbers each meeting and there are eight nominated for this meeting including the Port Augusta pair Mandy and Shane Petry.
Also with the welcome return of Kevin (Crazy) Smith will produce a hard fought race of their own.
Richard Tapley and John Moore are much improved drivers in this class and together with Paul McKay and Mandy Petry will contest every heat giving their best.
Brett Walden and Lionel Armour will be new class comers and are both an unknown quantity but the sedan experience of Walden should ensure he will have some control.
Eight drivers have nominated for the ladies class and Dianna Pickert will once again compete in the superfast Subaru and is expected to be the fastest contender despite the best efforts of the consistent Marg Hosking, Bev Watson and Melissa Tapley.
Melissa Crofts is becoming more experienced and can hold her own against Steph Coombes, and Nicole Ashman.
Added to these will be the Port Augusta driver Olb Baulderstone and with good handicapping should be able to make this class a close contest.
Former junior drivers Kial Hansen and Will Hoskings are both turning out to be competitive drivers and are not too far off the pace of experienced drivers in the four cylinder class.
Aiden Douglas showed great form and consistency last meeting and will again challenge Gill Griffiths for the overall win and newcomer Josh Hansen will make up the class and provide close racing.
Only three Juniors have nominated to date due to other sporting commitments but more are expected.
Luke Sutherland and consistent Keenan Roads will both be trying hard to finish in front of Gile Taylor who is enjoying a great season to date and the standard that these drivers present is a credit for such young inexperienced drivers.
Again close finishes can be expected.
This meeting will also host the Walden Racing Team 20 lapper.
Its not certain yet who will compete, but a strong field is expected to compete for 20 laps.
This event can be a handicappers nightmare because all senior classes are invited and a mixture of the two sedan classes.
The entire Open Wheel brigade should produce a hard fought contest over the full race distance and be a great spectacle for the spectators.
Practice for the event will be from 5pm and racing at 6pm with a short break to wait for the sun to set.
All facilities will be available with canteen and booth in operation.
