Although usually held at the start of the year, last week's Samaritan College sports day will aid in the selection of a team for next year's Catholic schools carnival.
It is the second 2009 Samaritan College sports day, and will alleviate pressure when choosing a team as the students' results are already in.
"It was really just out of a need to be able to pick a team a lot earlier," Samaritan College Saint Teresa's campus coordinator Bernie Meixner said.
"There's quite a lot of pressure at the start of year to organise a team to compete in the Catholic schools carnivals.
"All the preparation and recording (has) been done a lot earlier - that means when the Catholic schools carnivals are held in week four or five next term, all the preparation has been done for it."
The carnival rotates between being held at Saint Mark's in Port Pirie, Saint Joseph's in Port Lincoln, Caritas in Port Augusta and Samaritan.
Mr Meixner said next year there will only be one sports day, which will again be held at the end of the year.
