Members, family and friends of the Japan Karate Association gathered at the foreshore on Tuesday, December 18 to celebrate another hectic and successful year.
The afternoon consisted of award presentations and a Christmas sausage sizzle.
Sensei Jim Watson who spoke highly of the achievements and progress of the students during 2007 presented the awards.
Most improved students were Amiee Winkler, Axel Molnar and Rashaan Herrera.
Most consistent students were Jai Meyers, Stephanie Cammarota, Jaimee Arnold-Jacobs and Jim Watson.
Club person of the year was Haydn Meyers.
The awards were hard earned and well deserved, and hopefully, keenly contested again in 2008.
The major achievement of our club was Jaimee Arnold-Jacobs winning an Australasian Title at the championships in New Zealand in March this year.
A number of students from the Whyalla Norrie Dojo travelled to Peterborough to compete in their local championships.
They performed with great success.
Club instructor Sensei Arne Risborg was very proud of their success and endeavour.
A club grading was held on December 1 with 16 students grading to the next level.
December 7 to December 9 saw the instructors attending a Gasshuku (training camp) at Tatachilla.
Refereeing and instructor courses were run during the weekend.
Sensei Arne achieved his C class instructor certificate (receiving highest marks in course) and C class referee certificate.
The end of 2007 saw the merging of the Whyalla Dojo and Whyalla Norrie Dojo into one club.
Sensei Arne has welcomed students from the Whyalla club and the transition has been greeted with enthusiasm at training.
Training will re-commence at the Lutheran Church Hall on Thursday, January 3 and will immediately lead into a very hectic time, with a training camp and competition at Tatachilla at the end of January.
National championships will be held in Melbourne in March and Takahashi Shihan will be in Whyalla for grading in April.
JKA Whyalla Norrie senior students wish everyone a happy and safe festive season and great training in 2008.
