WFL records small profit

04 Mar, 2010 09:46 AM

The Whyalla Football League recorded a profit of more than $36,000 this year.

This was slightly down on last season, but there was one less round played.

The figures were revealed at the league's annual general meeting on Monday night by president Jim Hewitson.

In his president's report, Mr Hewitson said it was a fairly successful season, with five of the six teams reasonably even, and Central going through a rebuilding stage.

Sponsorship was slightly down on the previous year, while gate receipts, booth and canteen takings were all comparable to last season, despite one less round.

Mr Hewitson also stated that special events helped with the cash flow for the league, with the Crusty Demons returning later in the year.

The league has lost a few willing workers this year, with junior coordinator Shane Sawyer moving to Port Lincoln, and Mr Hewitson has stressed that the league needs to find more people to help administer the game at a local level and if they are compelled to employ further staff, admission prices may have to rise, which the league is reluctant to do.

All positions were made vacant, with all office bearers retaining their positions.

The office bearers for the WFL for season 2010 are; president Jim Hewitson, vice president Malcolm McLeod, treasurer John Schrapel, secretary Natasha Free, permits officer Bjorn Free and statistician Spider Saunders.

The six club directors are; Rod Harvey (West), Alan Perrott (Roopena), Paul Travers (South), Paul Wallace (Central), Stavros Paliaroutas (Weeroona Bay) and Tyrone Harris (North), with Jeff Croft the new junior coordinator.
