South Whyalla's under 14s caused the biggest upset of the day, defeating the previously undefeated West Whyalla.
West were defeated by 16 points, which thrilled the big crowd but got the Dragons day off to a bad start.
West lead at the first break by five points, but were trailing at the long break by three points.
With the scores level at three quarter time, the Demons came home with the breeze and the crowd sensed there may have been an upset on the cards.
Both sides attacked the ball relentlessly, with the young Demons pressuring the Dragons.
Demons pushed the ball forward to score enough goals to eventually win the game, with the final scores 5.5 to 2.7 in a low scoring, but exciting game.
There were many heroes for the winners, none better than their captain Lourens Victor, who also won the medal for best on ground.
Lourens is a talented young footballer who should go a long way in the game.
Others to play well were Jacob Smith, Sam Sullivan, Tyler Freymark and Ryan Capone, while for the losers, their best was Jack Vigar, Ciaran Hollingworth-Hughes, Shane Hage, Nathan Lane and Logan Robertson.
It was a great game to get the day off to a great start with many at the ground expecting a Westies win.
The young Demons can be proud of their achievements on the day by upsetting the previously undefeated Westies team.
