 Roos and Bays, anyone's game

Roos and Bays, anyone's game

26 Aug, 2009 11:30 PM

Expect an exciting prelude to the finals in the game between Weeroona Bay and Roopena this Friday night, which should be a very exciting insight to what the finals are going to be like.

With both sides currently in top form, neither will not want to lose this game as it will give the winner an edge coming into next week's final series.

As everyone knows, you do not give the opposition any advantage at all come finals.

The last time these two sides met Roopena won fairly convincingly by 82 points, but since then the Bays have won four games straight.

The Bays are also currently playing great football that will ensure they will definitely not be beaten by that score again this week.

I believe that the Bays are playing the best football of any team in the competition at the moment, and will be hard to beat.

However, they are a little suspect when put under pressure, and I am quite sure that is what the more experienced Roos will do.

Roopena was very convincing against South last week, and should the team carry this form on, it will really test out the young Bays players who also had a huge win over the hapless Roosters last week.

The catalyst in the Bays' resurgence has been the form of Geoff Appleton, Anthony Malcom, Lee Ringland and Anthony How, who have all played some fantastic football of late.

Roopena also has a very experienced mid field with players who will do everything in their power to curb their influence on the game.

Roopena now have a three pronged attack with Matt Oliver, Matty Manfield and now Ryan Burgess kicking plenty of goals between them.

Although Manfield was quiet last week, he is too good a player to be quiet two games in a row.

The problem that Weeroona Bay coach Barry Marks faces is who will he play on all three, with Garry Hoffman probably on Manfield, Thomas Colson (if available) on Oliver and either How or Michael Jaritz trying to stop the run of Burgess.

Now the pressure is off the Bays run to their first finals appearance since 2005, they may just have a slight let down, which is the only reason I am leaning toward a Roopena victory.

While it should be a fantastic game of football to watch, with both teams playing fast and open attacking football, I believe the Roos will just get home in a thriller by 5 to 10 points.
