Magpies to sneak home in thriller

Magpies to sneak home in thriller

05 Aug, 2009 11:30 PM

W/Bay v North on Sunday, August 9 at Memorial Oval 2.20pm

North Whyalla should just get the points against Weeroona Bay in what should be a very tight and exciting game when they meet in their round 14 clash on Sunday.

Although I am predicting the Magpies to win, I am not doing it with complete confidence as the Bays are currently on fire.

If they go into this game with the same attitude they displayed last week against Westies, do not be surprised of an upset.

The Maggies are also in great form at the moment, beating the two top teams in the past three weeks.

Everything points to this game being an absolute thriller worthy of a big crowd.

The Bays, when on top of their game are as exciting to watch as any team in the competition, but as we all know they can also be unpredictable.

If they come to the game with the wrong attitude North are very capable of destroying them.

Another incentive for the Bays is that if South flounder against West, they will be one step closer to playing in their first final series since 2005.

North's strong point is their attack and now that gun full forward Nick Prokopec is running into match fitness he will be a major headache for the Bay defenders.

However, if they take a leaf out of the way Westies played him three weeks ago, it should help to restrict his influence.

Both sides have capable mid fielders, with Chad Menzies leading a quick and fast running mid field for the Magpies, while both Anthony Malcolm and Geoff Appleton lead the Bays strong mid field.

Both defences will have to be at their best as both sides are capable of kicking big scores, which is where the game will be won or lost.

This is a very hard game to predict the outcome of, and will be a real thriller of a game that should go right down to the wire.

However, I feel that the Magpies are hitting top form at just the right time of the season, and they should just get over the line by the barest of margins - one to five points.
