Unfortunately for Harvey, in only his second night in this grade, Hoffman had the stronger kick in the final sprint, which is something Harvey should improve on in coming weeks, as he adjusts to and gains more experience with the faster pace of B grade.

Although not up to the pace of the two boys, C grade rider Dana Prater (80m) put in a great effort all evening in the combined senior B and C grade races, holding off Hoffman (scratch) until the final bend of their three lap handicap, with Hoffman finishing 30 metres ahead of Harvey and D Prater.

Hoffman began his sprint with a lap and a half to go of the 12 lap scratch race to have a good 20 metre lead on the bell and held this to the end, with Harvey second and D Prater third.
